We did not want to convey a direct quotation of
the abovementioned statement issued by the prime minister in our
headline yesterday...
Instead, we limited ourselves to saying “it is
not us but others who might sell Cyprus out”...
These words issued by Talat are the reduplication
of what is hidden in every Turkish Cypriot citizen’s heart...
If we as the Turkish Cypriots people were to
heartily express our minds in a single voice, nothing but the same
words would be uttered and cried out of our mouths...
For this reason, I think the message lying underneath Talat’s
statement has been comprehended by all, including Denktas himself...
It has been centuries since we settled on this
island...
No offence meant...
Nevertheless, we did not believe that the island belonged to the
British either...
It belonged to us...
For this was our country...
We had nowhere else to go...
Some of the people here had another country they could return to.
Hence, they went back to Turkey...
We did not...
We believed that one day we would certainly claim and take
possession of our homeland again...
This was the faith on which we had based our resistance...
We resisted so that Turkey could be involved to defend the Cyprus
cause and us...
We stood up when the Greek Cypriots demanded unification with their
motherland, ‘claiming the entire island as their own”...
We thus launched our resistance movement by organizing and aiming
ourselves at every corner of the island...
We struggled to gradually arouse Turkey’s attention, which claimed
“there was no such issue on her agenda as the Cyprus issue”...
Nevertheless, if it were not for the British, Turkey would not have
paid any attention to Cyprus either...
What followed afterwards only took place because our interests were
overlapping with the interests of the powerful nations...
Hence, Turkey started to deal with the Cyprus issue and us again...
Yes, they sold us out first only to claim us back, for this was
entirely in compliance with the interests of powerful countries...
We as the Turkish Cypriots have been struggling for five centuries
to make this country country our homeland...
We as the Turkish Cypriot people have been the incarnation of the
maintained existence of Turkish language and culture on this
island...
This is an absolute zeal that has been going on for generations...
It is a sacred battle...
Never have the Turkish Cypriots considered selling out their
countries in any phase of their existence on the island...
We are the real owners of our homeland...
We, as the Turkish Cypriots...
Down with those who have labelled us as homeland traitors at every
opportunity!...
And this those who came to this island long after us, but have dared
to teach us what loving one’s own country means...
Their own fate remains unknown for the time being...
Although they will probably be wandering hereabouts for several
years to fill their pockets and then leave the island...
For good, and without ever turning back...
Well, they have their own place to return to anyway...
They have not burnt their bridges like us...
From this standpoint, it is clearly seen that their so called
nationalism and nationalist feelings are all fake...
Nowadays, the British are back on the scene again...
Hand-in-hand with Turkey’s crucially important interests...
British interests lie in Turkey’s withdrawing her troops from
Cyprus...
That is what they are striving for...
Our own struggle is directed towards making a final move and
claiming our rights concerning our partnership and sovereignty on
the island...
It is certain that the Greek Cypriots are reluctant to give us any
rights...
We, therefore, are obliged to claim and grasp these rights back from
the world...
Our “YES votes” at the referendum have been really influential in
this sense...
Today, the world pays heed to what we are saying, understands our
position and supports our struggle...
We must not miss this opportunity...
What Talat said is a reiteration and acknowledgement of what every
Turkish Cypriot citizen has in his/her and mind...
We have only one homeland...
And nowhere else to go...
A
homeland cannot be sold out!...
Our struggle on this island is to make this land a consummate
homeland for ourselves!...
If this island is ever sold out one day, it will be sold by
others!...
Not by us...
We have nothing that is for sale...
If this island is ever sold out by others, “we will then continue
our struggle on our own”...
We will wage such a battle, which will make those who have sold us
and our country out, feel ashamed of themselves...
History will curse them...
They will never be able to escape from the curse of the Turkish
people...
Talat is telling them to quit accusing us, for, “it is not us but a
Turkish prime minister who might one day sell Cyprus out”...

claim that even a Turkish prime minister sell our homeland out!
Let him ever dare...
Then, gallows will be set up again!...
And I mean this in a literal sense!...
No one can find any excuse, which can acquit them of selling our
homeland out...
Secret diplomacy time is over...
There is no one left who is still ‘asleep’...
